Meet Chef Daniel Messer 

Daniel Messer was born and raised just north of Cincinnati, and grew up going to as many Reds games as possible. He developed a love for cooking at a young age helping grandpa (papou) cook Sunday dinners for the family. At the age of 14, he began working in kitchens for a close friend’s Texas BBQ pop up on weekends at fairs and festivals, which led into them opening a stand-alone location that he and their son ran most days. This developed an interest that would turn into a love of working with proteins, smoked meats, and butchery as a whole.

Messer has been working in the industry for 19 years, and in the OTR/Downtown area since 2012, opening some recognizable spots in that region and collaborating with many Cincinnati chefs. He has worked with local butchers for a couple years to further develop knowledge of specialty cuts and demand from Cincinnati market. He has helped open and lead 3 different locations for one of the most popular pizzas/Italian spots in OTR winning several “Best Of” awards from Cincinnati magazine.

Some more interesting hobbies of Messer include an affinity of the chase of collecting rare sneakers and building a personal collection. He also played competitive hockey across the US and Canada for a decade, as well as being a massive fan of the NHL. This gave him the opportunity to travel to 14 NHL rinks nationwide and he would like to complete this goal by seeing entire league’s stadiums in the next 10 years. Along with playing hockey, he is classically trained on piano for 12 years, which has led to great dexterity and helped with beginner knife skills. He states his favorite restaurant in the city currently is Sotto and his favorite Chef in the city is Chef Michael Kelly!
